1. Students are given one flash card each with the word on front and the definition on back (I use student created cards):
- Go up to a student and give them the definition of the word from your flashcard.
- The student tries to correctly provide the word, using their word bank if needed.
- If the student gives the incorrect word the person with the card may try to prompt them with more than the definition.
- When the student gets the word correct they mark it off of their word bank.
- Then it is that student’s turn to provide the definition to the other student.
- Repeat all steps.
- After the two students have quizzed one another they trade flashcards.
- Both students approach new partners to repeat the whole process of Quiz/Quiz Trade.
- For an extra challenge add words to the word bank that they won’t find.
- Make a rule that if they get the word incorrect the first time they don’t get to cross it off of their list.
- Set the timer for a predetermined time and tell them their goal is to get as many words as they can within that time limit. I set my timer for 10 minutes.
- Tell them one rule is they can’t sit down (there is usually one student who wants everyone to come to him).
- Finally, remind students that they can go to the same person over and over again because everyone has traded cards, so everyone is constantly getting new cards.
- Get to a student who has a card you’ve already crossed off? That’s okay! Extra review! You still have to Quiz/Quiz Trade!
